Dan Emerson has served as CFO of Bend-La Pine Schools since July 1, 2024. He oversees all aspects of financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, procurement, and compliance to ensure the financial health and stability of the district.
When he joined the District, Dan had seven years of financial experience in the public sector, including three years as Budget and Financial Planning Manager for Deschutes County. Dan attended Kenwood Elementary School, Cascade Middle School and Summit High School, and graduated in 2006.
Nick Shein has been a member of the Business Services Administrative team since 2014. He manages the Budgeting and Grants teams, and in previous roles with the District has also managed the Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll departments.
Prior to joining Bend-La Pine Schools, Nick served as a controller for a nonprofit and also worked in accounting in the agriculture industry. He holds a degree in Business Economics from Willamette University, and a MBA from Sonoma State University.
Matt Gayman has been a member of the Business Services administrative team since 2021. He manages accounting and accounts payable. Prior to joining the district, he worked at a CPA firm where he audited school districts and other governmental entities.
Matt holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Eastern Oregon University and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
Kate Pardo oversees end-to-end payroll functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely payment for employees. She provides leadership across payroll processes, regulatory reporting, audits, and system improvements, while supporting employees through clear, responsive communication.
Kate has been with Bend-La Pine Schools for over 10 years, previously serving as Payroll Process Manager, Payroll Specialist II, and Office Manager at Silver Rail Elementary School. Her career progression reflects deep institutional knowledge and a strong commitment to operational excellence.
