Welcome to Kindergarten

A group of smiling children surrounded by colorful plastic shapes, creating a playful and vibrant scene in what appears to be a classroom or daycare setting.

Kindergarten is a fun, engaging time for students to learn and grow together. Our classrooms are filled with learning and play as our youngest students learn letters, numbers, and social-emotional skills in warm classroom environments at our elementary schools.

Step 1: Find your school

All of our schools offer exceptional opportunities for students to learn and make connections in person during full-day kindergarten. Bend-La Pine Schools is a boundary district, which means your student will be directed to enroll at the correct school based on your home address. Learn which school your student will attend.

Step 2: Find your school's Kindergarten Kickoff event

This year, our schools are hosting in-person Kindergarten Kickoff events for new kindergarten families. Visit our Kindergarten Kickoff Event page to find an event at your school.

Step 3: Gather key documents

Get ready to register for kindergarten by gathering some key documents. You'll need the following:

  • Proof of residential address (examples: utility bill, rental agreement, purchase agreement, or mortgage statement dated in the last three months and displaying the student's residential address and parent/guardian's name)
  • Birth verification (examples: birth certificate, baptismal certificate, legal adoption documents, passport) - Kindergartners must be age 5 on or before September 1 of the school year
  • Immunization records (examples: CIS form, certificate of immunizations)
  • Recent special education records (if applicable)
  • Custody documents (if applicable) - all pages, dated and signed by a judge
  • Dental Screening (for children 7 years of age or younger - the link takes you to printable forms in 10 languages)

Step 4: Enroll now

Families are encouraged to enroll in kindergarten now. It's a great way to get connected with your school, so families can receive updates and information, and it helps your school plan for your student's arrival.

Step 5: Get Connected

After your student is enrolled, it's time to think about details like:
