Academic Counseling: Grade 6

6th Grade Highlights

Sixth grade focuses on a successful transition to middle school while building foundational academic, personal, and goal-setting skills. School counselors connect with all 6th-grade students through classroom instruction and ongoing support to help students feel confident and connected.

6th Grade Classroom Instruction (Fall & Spring)

Counselors meet with all 6th graders through classroom lessons designed to support the transition to middle school and introduce early career awareness and planning skills.

Instruction includes:

  • Transitioning successfully to middle school
  • Understanding middle school academic requirements
  • Learning how to access school supports and trusted adults
  • Building stress tolerance and coping skills
  • Introduction to SchooLinks

Through SchooLinks, students complete:

  • Onboarding: Find Your Path
  • Would you Rather Assessment (interest exploration)
  • Goal setting activities connected to future pathways

Students also participate in a responsible decision-making unit to strengthen self-management and problem-solving skills.

Life & Career Readiness Fair

Students and families are invited to attend the Life & Career Readiness Fair, a community-based event that introduces local career pathways, post-secondary options, and community resources available in Bend.

Ongoing Counselor Support

Counselors are available throughout the year to support students with academic concerns, peer relationships, adjustment to middle school, and early goal setting. Our focus in 6th grade is connection, belonging, and skill-building.
