8th Grade Highlights

Eighth grade focuses on preparing students for a confident transition to high school. Counselors help students understand graduation requirements, explore post-secondary options, and begin building a four-year high school plan.

8th Grade Classroom Instruction (Fall & Spring)

Counselors meet with all 8th graders to prepare them for high school forecasting and future planning.

Instruction includes:

  • Understanding high school graduation requirements
  • Introduction to college admission requirements for Oregon public universities
  • Accessing supports and resources in high school
  • Building advocacy and self-advocacy skills
  • Making the most of high school opportunities
  • Exploring careers and post-secondary pathways

Through SchooLinks, students:

  • Update goals in Find Your Path
  • Use the Course Planner to draft a four-year academic plan aligned with post-secondary goals
  • Explore career interests and pathway options

Individual Forecasting (1:1)

Eighth-grade students participate in forecasting with high school counselors to officially select 9th-grade courses. The SchooLinks Course Planner helps students arrive prepared for these conversations.

High School Transition Events

To support a smooth transition, students and families are invited to:

  • High School Fly-Up Day
  • 8th Grade Family Night: Preparation for High School

These events provide important information about graduation requirements, course options, programs, and expectations.

Life & Career Readiness Fair

Students and families are encouraged to attend the Life & Career Readiness Fair to continue exploring career pathways and post-high school opportunities.
