Volunteers and Visitors

If you plan on visiting your child's school, don't forget your government-issued photo ID. It must be shown at each and every school visit. You may be visiting for a concert, to enjoy lunch with your student, or to participate in an IEP meeting. Whatever the reason, safety procedures remain in place to keep our school community safe. All visitors must sign in at school during regular business hours using our Raptor kiosk, the digital sign-in roster. It is critical to know who is in our schools at all times, and no exceptions can be made in this process.

Volunteers

A volunteer will be invited, provide a service, and will have a complete background check. Volunteers are screened to meet the same criteria as Bend-La Pine Schools employees.

A volunteer is a non-paid person functioning within the policies and procedures of the district, who shall serve under the direction of the professional staff of the district to whom he/she is assigned.

A volunteer usually meets all of the following criteria, including but limited to:

  • The individual will provide a service to the school.
  • The individual may have access to students while performing the service.

A volunteer may fulfill one or more of the following functions, including limited to:

  • Provide individual educational assistance to students.
  • Relieve staff members of many non-instructional tasks and duties.
  • Stimulate business and community interest, concern, and support for the educational system.
  • Enhance all aspects of the educational process.

Visitors

School visitors must check in and out using the electronic visitor management system and wear the district issued badge during their visit.

Visitors should have a direct connection to a student.

A visitor is an individual - generally a parent, close relative or guardian - who visits a school for a public or private event involving a student who is the individual's child, close relative or for whom the individual is guardian. (Examples: Lunch with their student, brief classroom visit with treats on a birthday, getting clothes from Lost and Found, IEP meeting.)

Visitors should not be allowed inside the school without an invitation.

Visits should be arranged and permitted within considerations of the safety and welfare of students and the orderly administration of educational programs and school operations.

Visitors should have interactions with their student or our staff, not groups of students.

Visitors do not have repeated interaction with one or more students and are not responsible for the care, supervision, guidance or control of students.
