Middle Schools

Discover the Excitement of Middle School
Middle school is a time of tremendous growth, curiosity, and possibility.
At Bend-La Pine Schools, we recognize that students in grades 6–8 have unique developmental needs as they transition from childhood to adolescence.
Our middle school programs are intentionally designed to support this growth—academically, socially, and emotionally—while inspiring a genuine love of learning.
Students engage in rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in core subjects such as language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Beyond the core, middle school students have expanding opportunities to explore a wide range of electives that spark curiosity, creativity, and self-discovery. From the arts and technology to world languages and hands-on, interest-based courses, electives allow students to try new things, uncover passions, and begin imagining future pathways.
Our classrooms emphasize active learning, collaboration, and real-world connections. Teachers design engaging lessons that challenge students to think critically, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning. This balance of strong academics and meaningful exploration helps middle school students build confidence, independence, and excitement for what comes next.
Middle school in Bend-La Pine Schools is more than a bridge between elementary and high school—it’s a launchpad for exploration, growth, and possibility.

Wayfinder Helps Build Life & Career Readiness
What is Wayfinder? Reimagine education that develops a student’s sense of meaning, purpose and belonging.
Wayfinder is helping the district provide a learning environment that nurtures students’ academic growth and fosters critical thinking, a sense of purpose, and future-ready skills to connect classroom learning to the real world. Wayfinder lessons also support students’ sense of belonging in their school communities, and reinforce a positive culture and climate in each school.
Bend-La Pine Schools and Wayfinder are helping students at all levels develop core skills in six areas: self-awareness, collaboration, empathy, adaptability, agency, and purpose.
- Elementary students learn to build community and foster relationships in the classroom and beyond.
- In middle school, students explore their strengths and begin to focus on career-ready skills through their Advisory period.
- High school students set goals for future-ready skills and approach post-secondary life with confidence.
Wayfinder is designed to complement the existing curriculum without replacing any essential academic content. It is being introduced through age-appropriate activities, discussions, and interactive experiences to foster a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes academic success.
